Baroque art and architecture flourished in the 17th century Europe. The trade-marks of Baroque art and architecture are extravagant concepts, elaborate theatrical style that used realism and ornate forms to achieve the effects. The artist Jacques Stella (1596-1657) worked during this period.  Stella was employed by the Medici prince Cosimo II and later became the court painter to Louis XIII.

ART DECO/BAROQUE STENCIL DESIGNS

The Art Deco (1920-1930) period of design had its beginnings in France.  The movement was influenced by the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun by the archaeologist Howard Carter. African tribal art, Ancient Egyptian culture and Assyrian art are just several of the sources artist and designers used for their inspiration during this period. Stylized compositions, crisp geometric lines and the use of both primary and secondary color palettes can often identify Art Deco.
